League 3 Penn Rangers 5-1 Bucks CC Print

11 March 2012                                                                                          Under 16’s Division 3

Penn Rangers 5-1 Bucks CC

We gathered, by the Tennis Courts, for a final time on this warm-ish spring morning. There was talk of directions to a new venue for us but despite the bandying about of postcodes and sat-navs, we knew this would end in tears. All went well at the beginning with the convoy maintaining contact all the way to Hazelmere passing the familiar signs we have come to know over the past 6 years. Although ‘Cats Eyes Removed’ was an unwelcome message, one in which you’d hope the RSPCA would be interested. We were told to look for French Meadow School. Now, the French are famous for many things, but meadows are not generally one of them. Neither it seems, is Penn. Because we didn’t find it, settling instead for a field in a sports club.

There remains dirtying messages reminding us of HS2. Though I doubt those large ‘Psst David’ messages will reap benefit, designed as it is, to prompt our PM as he speeds to No.10 after a weekend at Chequers. In fact I would say he goes “La-La-La-La-not-listening” as he passes by, before settling back to his Sudoku in the back seat.

League 3 Bucks CC 3-1 Prestwood Colts Panthers Print

26th  February 2012                                                                                  Under 16’s Division 3

Bucks CC 3-1 Prestwood Colts Panthers

This was one beautiful late winter, some say, including the odd daffodil, early spring day as we welcomed PCP for a second time this season, the first being a Cup match Bucks winning through that day. Some of us were commenting on the pedigree of Prestwood teams at this age group as they have impressively maintained two teams throughout.

Of topical interest, today was very much a day of ‘suns’, two actually. One is super, soar-away, worshipped by many people, often of questionable sanity and promotes frequent debate around why on earth it is here. The other is a newspaper. Apparently.

19th February 2012 League 3 Tring Tornadoes 1-2 Bucks CC Print

19 February 2012                                                                                      Under 16’s Division 3

Tring Tornadoes 1-2 Bucks CC

This was one heck of a cold one as an icy wind blew in off the famous Icknield Way welcomed our visit to Tring for a return match following a disappointing reverse just after Christmas. Conditions were compared to that on distant planets with only the bright sunshine and a long line of vehicles lined up along the road to remind us where we were.

Tring is steeped in history and was the site of major Roman crossroads with Akeman Street. The Romans are supposed to be important in shaping the modern ways of the world but they missed a trick in failing to install traffic lights here. Chariot accidents were forever being reported on Mixus XCIV.

29th Jan 2012 League 3 Prestwood Colts Panthers 1-4 Bucks CC Print

29 January 2012                                                                                       Under 16’s Division 3

Prestwood Colts Panthers 1-4 Bucks CC

This was a dank, still, cold winter morning and it was either quite misty or your author, glancing across at the other pitch with the smaller goals and smaller lads, was getting rather wistful as to where all those years ‘went’.

There’s been the odd cup meeting too but Bucks were yet to lose to this team as they met today in the first League match since under 12’s (the last time such outrageous statto-ness was expressed, I was soon put right by the Penn manager).

League 3 22 January 12 Bucks CC 8-0 Thame Youth Print

22 January 2012                                                                                         Under 16’s Division 3

Bucks CC 8-0 Thame Youth

We gathered at Walton Court for this ‘home’ game to entertain Thame Youth in a return of the fixture that saw Bucks struggle to win a tight match. It was mild in a cold sort of way, windy too, but Bucks were nursing a couple of injuries as they commenced the game with the wind helping. A lot.
